I was away from this newsletter for a while because I started a book writing project last fall.
Whew, writing a book is hard!
I completed the first draft, reread it, and thought that it was trash. I’m not being hard on myself here. There are some bright spots in the draft for sure, but it is nowhere close to what I’m imagining my readers holding and spending their time with.
So, I’m letting it marinate. I’m reflecting a lot. I’m asking for help.
And instead of using the weekend mornings that I set aside to work on my book, I’m at the page writing to you - my Birth/Werk readers. I’ve missed you all.
Updates And Offerings
Birth Study Circles
Starting Thursday, March 17 at 7PM ET and every third Thursday through August, I will be hosting an hour-long study circle for doulas, midwives, students, parents, and anyone interested in exploring how birth is understood and portrayed in our contemporary society.
Right now, there are conversations around birth happening in the media that have me feeling inspired. And, of course, there are grim ones too. Last week, Jennie Joseph, an extraordinary midwife and visionary was named one of Time Magazine's Women of The Year.
In our first study circle, we'll bring our thoughts and reflections to what it means that a Black midwife and midwifery school owner is being recognized in this way when the US’ maternal mortality rate continues to be the highest in the developed world.
You can read more about joining the birth study circle here.
Please join me and invite others to do the same. Deeply discounted rates are available. And if you want to be in the group, but money is tight, let me know. I want you with us. Reach out to me for a coupon code or a free pass.
The Educated Birth
In collaboration with The Educated Birth, I will be teaching a monthly workshop - Companioning Clients Through Pregnancy Loss. The next workshop will be on March 23rd 7 PM ET. Sessions are recorded and sent to all who register for the class. A generous sliding scale is available.
Register here and share this offering with your communities.
The SoShe App
Doulas get excited!
SoShe wants to give you 5 free passes to the birth prep class (1 for you + 4 for your clients). This is a $500 value. Get access to your passes here and share the link with your doula friends. Once you’ve submitted the form, I will reply to you directly with your complimentary codes.
If you haven’t previewed SoShe already, I know that you’re going to love it. I’ve been working with this truly dedicated team for over a year now and the app is unlike anything I’ve seen - think MasterClass for birth prep!
The app will make your job easier whether you teach your own class and want your clients to review key concepts after they leave, or you’re a birth doula and you want to motivate your clients to practice invaluable coping skills on their own. It’s all in SoShe.
Download the app from an iphone or ipad: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/soshe/id1468000162
